An environmental sculpture made as part of creating the video work "Descendants". A story of the marks we leave behind.
We are the descendants of the witches they could not burn. A piece of work that reflects on the witches in my English history. I want to believe that when women were burned at the stake, all of their remnants, all of their being, all of their essence, all of their magic turned into this black ash that was left on the ground behind them. That they fertilised the earth for the next generation of women.
Made on Dalabon country in the Northern Territory, Australia. I pay my respect to the Traditional Owners of the land and their Elders, past, present and emerging.
