The great ornithologist William Henry Hudson wrote in Idle days in Patagonia (1893) that “Nature has many surprises for those who wait on her”. Well, she gave me a beautiful surprise yesterday when I could watch and shoot this incredible bird in a natural reserve near my home in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is a Scarlet-headed Blackbird or "Federal" (Amblyramphus holosericeus). This species is categorized as “vulnerable” in Argentina. Moreover, the bird was perching on a “Totora” (Typha latifolia), an emblematic plant of Tropical and Subtropical wetlands. I am grateful to nature for this remarkable scene.
