In a small Italian village, surrounded by hills and dark forests, stood an ancient, crumbling chapel. No one remembered when it was built, but its moss-covered walls and strange inscriptions in ancient Latin suggested that its origins predated Christianity. The village elders warned the younger ones to stay away, claiming that evil resided there. According to legend, the chapel was a portal to the shadows, a gateway to a forbidden cultβthe Cult of "The Three Shadows".
The "Three Shadows" were a twisted and blasphemous version of the Three Graces from Greek mythology. Instead of embodying beauty, charm, and creativity, these figures represented suffering, madness, and death. In ancient times, a dark cult served them, offering human sacrifices under the new moon to invoke their presence. The "Shadows" promised power and knowledge to those foolish enough to worship them, but always at an unimaginable cost.
Marco, a historian obsessed with local legends, was determined to uncover the truth. For months, he researched ancient texts and gathered stories whispered by the village's oldest inhabitants. Everything pointed to the abandoned chapel deep in the woods. Armed with his flashlight and an amulet he had found in an antique shop, Marco set off for the ruins on the night of the new moon.
The atmosphere was thick, cloaked in an unsettling mist, and as he approached, the sounds of the forest faded. The silence was suffocating. Upon entering the chapel, the first thing he noticed was the stench of decay and dampness. The walls were covered in grotesque carvings: winged female figures with distorted faces, their screams eternally frozen in stone. At the far end, a dark marble altar stood, and atop it, three statues of eerie women loomed, wrapped in shadows that seemed to pulse with life.
Marco felt a presence around himβsomething ancient, awake. The air was heavy, and suddenly, he heard whispers in a language he didnβt understand. His flashlight flickered, and the shadows of the statues began to move, slowly, as if taking form. Three ghostly figures emerged from the statues, identical but grotesque in their dark beauty, surrounding him.
The first shadow, with a demented smile, reached out her hand toward Marco. Her empty eyes seemed to devour his sanity. "I am the one who brings madness," she whispered, and at that moment, Marco felt his mind unravel. Inhuman voices echoed in his head, confusing him, making him doubt reality itself.
The second shadow, paler and skeletal, approached slowly. "I am eternal suffering," she said in a hollow voice. Marco felt an indescribable pain, as if his soul was being torn apart from within. His hands trembled, and tears streamed down his face as torment consumed him.
The third shadow, dark and silent, gazed at him intently. She spoke no words, but her mere presence made Marco understand that she was death. A death that brought no peace, only an eternal void, where his existence would be forgotten, and his soul would wander in darkness forever.
The shadows moved closer, enveloping him. In a last desperate attempt to save himself, Marco raised the amulet he had brought with him, but it was in vain. The shadows dragged him into the depths of the chapel, where no one would ever find him.
At dawn, only the ruins remained, shrouded in perpetual silence. Some villagers said that if you listened closely during the night of the new moon, you could hear the whispers of the "Three Shadows"β¦ and the screams of those foolish enough to seek them out.
