Created in observance of Truth and Reconciliation Day in Canada, this piece captures a young Indigenous dancer mid-motion, celebrating the beauty, resilience, and energy of their culture. Canadian geese symbolize migration, community, and connection to the land, while warm orange tones blend with my spirit colors, purple and yellow. In the background, a subtle diamond pattern references Cree beadwork, honoring tradition while keeping the focus on movement and vitality.
This work is minted in an edition of seven, symbolically honoring the Seventh Generation teaching, which encourages us to consider how our actions today affect the generations yet to come. Through this edition choice, the piece connects its cultural significance with the ideas of continuity, responsibility, and legacy, values that guide both my personal journey and artistic practice.
Through movement, color, and abstraction, the work explores the interconnectedness of land, culture, and identity. It invites viewers to feel the rhythm of the dance, the strength of tradition, and the enduring influence of cultural memory as it continues to shape our sense of belonging.
