This piece is an ode to Latina disability rights activists. Inspired by Conchita Hernández Legorreta, I envisioned a public mosaic as a living tribute to her advocacy. Mexican-American traditions of using mosaic murals to preserve the memory of a moment have a long history, so I chose to mimic the look of a mosaic. Conchita is blind and advocates for programming and policy changes for people with disabilities in the U.S. and internationally. Her inspirational story highlights the fact that there are many others like her, who dedicate their lives to improve others’ lives. Let’s see more tributes to the unsung heroes in the Latinx community. October is Disability Employment Awareness Month. Made by Yolantis with AI & post-processing. 4461 x 2500 pixels, 20 MB PNG.
