The girl in the yellow coat walked along the winding path, pulling her little pink suitcase behind her. She had been here before—not here exactly, but in a place just like this. A new house, new walls, new windows with unfamiliar views. She knew how it would go: the first few weeks would feel strange, the air inside the house slightly different, the creaks in the floor unfamiliar. Then, just as she would start to call it home, it would be time to pack again.
Her house was always with her, packed neatly in the folds of her backpack—memories tucked between clothes, childhood laughter squeezed into the smallest corners of her suitcase. No matter how many times she moved, she carried pieces of each home with her.
Above her, white birds soared freely through the sky. Were they searching for home, too? Or did they already know a secret she hadn’t yet learned—that maybe, just maybe, home wasn’t a place at all. Maybe it was something she had been carrying all along
