Note: "Journey: towards the unknown" is a top woodcut engraved on cedar wood made with a burin. This work make up the series "The Narrative of the Impossible" which was produced during graduation in engraving by UFMG 2016. This image is the seventh piece in a series of twelve engravings that narrates the reversal of official history from the European invasion to the American continent. Unfortunately, I lost almost all the matrices, both wooden (woodcuts) and also in metal. The engravings were registered in the course conclusion work at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). I tried to remove many of these engravings from the texts. However, they are scanned in poor quality. The narrative of the impossible begins with the play Ruinas where our protagonists they go in search of navigation tools to face the dangers of the ocean. To a long gap open between Ruins and Journey: towards the unknown. Journey: towards the unknown is the second phase of the series where the protagonists begin their journey across the ocean. In Ruinas the story begins with the search for navigation instruments,This part has six engravings. In Journey: towards the unknown, the protagonists have already conquered knowledge navigation and boat construction and are now embarking on their goal of facing the ocean. The series has the third part where the protagonists arrive on another unknown continent. This piece took eight months to develop, it was recorded on a red cedar top, if you use zoom you will be able to observe the wood grains in a spiral shape, I tried to take advantage the shape of this spiral to compose the ocean and was engraved with various types of butyl: triangular, double-rayed burin and three lines. The matrix is 58x42cm in the highest parts and the entire frame of the piece follows the natural shape of the trunkcedar and the work of digitizing this piece was very difficult due to the size of the matrix.
