Digital. 1920x1080. (Gain / Loss) begins with a domestic scene: a couch, a living room, two boys sitting. The image is built through soft gradients and seemingly random but precisely placed brushstrokes. Through this mix of techniques, the piece explores the worldly dharmas of gain and loss as a constant search for balance. The title itself carries a subtle joke: what does the life we fight for every day would actually look like. The scene is taken from a frame of Gummo, reinforcing the personal symbolic weight the film holds in my work as a representation of searching for life within chaos. One of the boys appears incomplete, filled with a vibrant texture, a symbol of honest disorder as part of one’s center. In the foreground, a carefully detailed bottle of alcohol reflects the role consumption plays within toxic thought patterns. In the back, an open window shows a blue, saturated outside world, standing out against the warm tones of the room, a gesture toward change, or the idea that maybe the grass is greener on the other side.
