Guarana, this plant with black seeds that look like human eyes, is a fruit native to the Amazon and its origin is recounted in an indigenous legend. The story says the plant descended from a child that was murdered by Jurupari, the god of darkness. His parents find the dead child lying in the forest, and Tupã, the creator of the universe, consoles them in their grief and asks them to bury the child's eyes. That way, a new plant would grow and spread all the boy’s kindness through its delicious fruits. At the place where the parents planted the boy’s eyes, the Guaraná grew.
