Trees & Landscapes: Myrtle Beech with moss

I love this old Myrtle Beech tree. I found it in the Yarra Ranges east of Naarm (Melbourne).

The scientific name is Nothofagus cunninghamii. This species is believed to have been present in the forests of Gondwana, the ancient super-continent that existed around 200 million years ago.
