A Friend, Remembered Acrylic on silk, 34 × 24 cm, 2023
Part of my Remembrance: Love and Grief series.
This portrait is based on the image of a friend with whom I once shared a close relationship. When our friendship ended, her absence became a presence of its own, leaving behind a sense of longing and unfinished memory.
Rendered in black, white, and pink, the portrait emerges through a restrained yet expressive surface. Rather than attempting to preserve the person exactly as I remember her, the work reflects on what remains after a relationship disappears from everyday life.
For me, painting became a way of returning to someone who was no longer present—to hold a fragment of the relationship through memory, even when the relationship itself could not be restored.
The portrait exists somewhere between presence and absence: a face remembered, a friendship lost, and an attachment that continues to echo after goodbye.
