The word ‘Habagat’ is used in modern day Philippine society to refer to the southwest monsoon: the season of humid weather and heavy rainfall. Yet its origin is deeply embedded in the Tagalog folk belief of a raging wind deity ruling the sky realm, ‘Habagat’, who often unleashes storms as a show of might to other powerful male deities in the pursuit of love.
