The subject of the arachi culture is somewhat confusing, as even the descriptions of their bodies and demeanor vary from experience to experience. Who really are “the Arachi”, the name that we had made up for these entities?
The arachi society is perhaps the most dominant one among the sentient, corporeal beings that you are likely to interact with. Their influence is present almost in each other culture. Albeit it’s not always direct and overt, from what we have heard. They are often bioengineers and, naturally, weavers and string makers. Music, some kind of reverence and monastic life is traditional among all the arachi castes and it’s as diverse as is their complicated social stratification system. Each hive seems to have a different mix of castes, with each one having its unique feel to it. And some hives are truly ancient, hanging high above the Realm of Harbours with at least one that is even higher than The Canopy. The branching foliage of The Canopy is used as roads: this is how the Arachi can appear anywhere around the Peninsula literally from the obscured sky above. For an outsider, it is difficult to access the hives and even more difficult to be welcome there. Some religious bonds exist with other surface dwellers that can grant access or audience at the webbed courts. Ou’Rangi have a special privilege to come and go more freely than any other culture. Most likely due to the bioengineering curiosity of both species. Poetry and puzzles are also often traded from Nat-Bakka and lately with some kotharaki and even karchari tribes. The question about the arachi leadership remains quite open. Although the hiearchic structure is strongly implied by the complicated caste system, it is unclear as to who oversees or rules over the sociopolitical structure of the Arachi. They exhibit signs of the hive brain mentality and some scholars argue about the multi-laterality of their decision making, pointing out their “regal caste” acting with conflicting interests. That being said, a lot is unknown about this fascinating sentient species. Perhaps we’ll hear more about their intentions and thought processes as we send more scouts to The Canopy above. ⚜
