The wave function is a fundamental concept in quantum physics that is used to describe the state of a quantum system. It is a mathematical object that encodes the probability amplitudes of different outcomes when the system is observed. The wave function evolves in time according to the Schrödinger equation, which describes how quantum systems change over time. In general, the wave function of a quantum system can be represented as a superposition of different states, which allows it to exhibit phenomena such as quantum superposition and quantum entanglement. The wave function is a key tool in the study of quantum systems, and it has been central to the development of many important theories in quantum physics, including quantum mechanics and quantum field theory.
This video loop shows the result of an experiment in which two configurations of a particle system are alternated. These configurations are generated independently using the same set of parameters, and then displayed by morphing them in a sinusoidal, time-dependent way. The configurations are dispersed in space by a burst of energy, and the experiment allows us to observe the evolution of the system over time.
