With aurora borealis/australis rendered with coloured pencils above a photorealistic sea in the background, the subject of this work is a pre-Christian (pre-human?) creation that rises from the depths over millennia at seemingly random times and never in the same place twice.
One of the things that perhaps contributes to the uniqueness of this work is the fact that I inadvertently included two typos in the text prompt for it (no input images were used). Instead of properly spelling Hilma af Klint's name, you can see I changed “af” to a preposition and accidentally changed her last name to the guy who made “The Kiss.” Here is the complete prompt:
“a neo-expressionist abstract painting of 'The Leviathan Cross' in the style of Giger and Hilma at Klimt”
This VQGAN work has surprised critics of AI art who claimed they could spot any AI output or even identify which type of AI art system was used to create it.
