When the idea for this new 3D piece - a hand gripping prison bars - first came to me, I initially envisioned a prisoner. But I felt that theme was too cliché. In this artwork, the viewer is the captive, while the girl behind the bars is actually free.
I wanted the audience to become part of the scene, not just an observer.
This piece is a reminder that sometimes, we lock ourselves in cages - hide from fear, prejudice, or distrust of the world.
