Manhattan Beach, a place The Beach Boys lived 5 minutes from, wrote about in their songs…and still holds up as a place where the surf can get epic.
This morning on the Pier, a sneaky swell arrived. One that wasn’t shared in the surf report or whispered among the local surfers. A single lucky surfer out with overhead conditions in Los Angeles is almost unheard of…yet here we were. He in the water, me on the Pier. This vantage point of the waves from the Pier has always given a view that until the invention of drones was unmatched. I’ve spent years knowing what angles work with what swell direction. On this particular morning, the wind had all but ceased, the swell was picking up and the sun just began to glow in the east. Everything seemed to align for this special moment in time and a welcome addition to the Pier Pressure Series.
