Over the years Sunrise became my favorite time to shoot around the Manhattan Beach Pier. With fewer people, the dark of dawn turns into a peaceful glow…the hope of a new day. There are more greetings of “hi” and “hey how are you” as if you’re a part of a small secret club, the Sunrise Club.
I love a good landscape, but capturing people give me so much more depth in which to share a moment.
This elderly couple was on the pier partaking in their morning routine. They’d sit on the pier bench facing south towards Palos Verdes. They wouldn’t talk much, it was the silent type of communication, one achieved after years together. Sipping their coffee and taking in the view.
On this crisp January morning the clouds started to line up for one of those “Red Skies in the morning, Sailors take warning” type sunrises. The sky did not disappoint…and neither did the Pier People sharing this moment.
