What's actually revealed when the mask gets torn off an Ape? In Feb 2022 journalist Katie Notopoulos, senior tech reporter for Buzzfeed. wrote an ‘expose’ revealing the pseudonymous creators behind incredibly successful NFTs and brand 'Bored Ape Yacht Club.'

Her desire was to hold Greg Solano and Wylie Aronow accountable. What was she ‘exposing’? Well, nothing. Her angle was a fraud because there was no wrongdoing, by her own admission in the article they “...don’t appear to have any red flags…” She just thought people had a ‘right’ to know.
Like many of Notopoulos’s generation, they have grown up in an environment where almost everything about everyone is public and therefore they have limited understanding of anyone’s right to privacy, let alone basic concept of manners. When it comes to morals, the argument from many is it’s ‘publicly available information’ if you dug through the trash hard enough. Not whether it was the right thing to do, or even worth doing.
Meanwhile at that moment there were bigger. more important stories worth pursuing; the revelations behind influencer ‘Beanie’ allegedly having over 20 years of scams on his CV, to name one.
BAYC is currently the number one NFT collection, and the company is said to possibly be valued at 5 billion. Notopoulos put lives in danger by placing individuals and their families in the spotlight against their will; making them target of criminals which is a common issue in the Crypto world - and hence why so many do not reveal their true identities. There was no warning so they could engage in any protective strategy.
Like most in the age of clickbait fame there isn’t a lot of consideration given to sociopathically propelling one’s own career at the expense of others. So, what was the point? There wasn’t, except her employer generating income, and lil' Katie getting a pat on the head whilst gaining notoriety.
In the end Notopoulos exposed more about her own persona, than her subjects, in my opinion; that’s what the piece portrays.
