The never-ending and increasingly obscure referential reworkings of character as meme. Kaeru No Pepe Kitsuen translates to ‘Pepe the Frog Smoking.’ My version is inspired by a melding of traditional Japanese paper/scroll paintings and Crypto/NFT Art culture which seems to involve a LOT of smoking from what I hear for myself in Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces. I was also inspired by Japanese artist Mia and Russian Artist Artsiom Pronin. Both from different parts of the world and cultural backgrounds but their similarity is their incredible command of the brush. The popular internet meme ‘Pepe the Frog’ was created in 2005 by Matt Furie and originally published in a comic called 'Boy's Club.' Since that time Pepe has become a viral sensation which has been adopted by a number of online movements, one in particular being the Crypto/NFT Art space. Pepe is often accompanied by a speech bubble with the slogan "Feels good, man."
