Figuration X Electrifying Opera: L'amour t’évite

This large charcoal drawing by Leo Crane is one of four concept artworks for L’amour rebelle, the first-ever live opera NFT. Here, the Rebel Bird (“l' oiseau rebelle”) is reborn in Carmen’s hand only to fly off into the wild. The bird represents sexuality and the pursuit of love, something cannot be tamed, but must fly free.

L'amour rebelle explores sexuality and conflict by reimagining Georges Bizet’s classic opera Carmen. It premiered with a live performance and animated projections in Los Angeles on 29 March 2022.
