The Time Capsule captures the first live performance of opera NFT - L’amour rebelle on March 29th 2022 at NFT LA. It contains physical traces of the ephemeral performance: feathers from the couture dress by Rami Kadi, a miniature version of the conductor’s score complete with vintage magnifying glass and a series of glass bottles containing feathers that inspired the charcoal animation, as well as fragments of remaining charcoal. All these objects are contained in an Edwardian cash box, wrapped and sealed with wax.
This time capsule is a new kind of NFT, one that represents the non-fungible physical experience of live performance. It is a mini museum of a moment, a moment that can never be repeated, but will remain in the memory of those who experienced it.
L’amour rebelle is the first-ever live opera NFT. The work re-imagines Bizet’s Carmen in an arrangement by Zachary Whitney, performed by Merav Eldan. The music was developed with a charcoal animation by Leo Crane, featuring Roy Joseph Butler.
L’amour rebelle is a Figuration/Electrifying Opera co-production.
