REASONS: The Last Frontier: Valhalla

After sunrise, the sky was locked in a swirling layer of daunting clouds that appeared like a scene out of Lord of the Rings. Having given up hope of any sort of light, I put my camera down to just take in the landscape.

Quickly, to my surprise, the clouds broke just above the mountains to reveal a piercing line of sunlight shining down from the heavens. The lonely mountain top was illuminated by a wispy cloud that swayed and danced with every passing gust. Light rays cast down through the clouds striking the ground as if spotlights from a broadway stage.

This was truly one of the most magnificent light displays that Ive every experienced. Shot in Kenai Fjords National Park, AK in August 2021.
