Atmospheric Phenomena of Peru: Viracocha, The Creator God

This was the first time I put my life at risk by entering a storm to chase lightnings. The idea of chasing storms sounded fun until I realized that I was putting my life and the people who were travelling with me at risk. After taking a few pictures we escaped.

A Lightning is a natural spark discharge that occurs within the atmosphere or between the atmosphere and the Earth’s surface. On discharge, a highly electrically conductive plasma channel is created within the air, and when current flows within this channel, it rapidly heats the air up to about 25,000°C.

Viracocha is the most sacred deity from the Inca and Pre-Inca civilizations. He created the universe, sun, moon, stars, time and civilization itself. He was worshipped as God of the sun and storms and was represented as wearing the sun for a crown, with thunderbolts in his hands as two staffs, and tears descending from his eyes as rain.
