Atmospheric Phenomena of Peru: Viracocha

02/10/19 – Huayllay, Cerro De Pasco – 4,360 M.A.S.L

This was the first time I´ve put my life at risk by entering a storm to chase lightnings, the idea of hunting them sounded fun until, when being inside the storm, I realized that I was putting my life and the people who were travelling with me at risk and immediately escaped.

A Lightning is a natural spark discharge that occurs between the atmosphere and the Earth’s surface. On discharge, a highly electrically conductive plasma channel is created within the air, and when current flows within this channel, it rapidly heats the air up to about 25,000°C.

According to Inca mythology, Viracocha created the universe, the sun, the moon and the stars, time and civilization itself. He was worshiped as the god of the sun and storms and was represented with the sun as a crown, rays on his hands in in a form of Staffs and tears that fell from his eyes in the form of rain.
