Early Ai Art: The Hole
"There is a large sinkhole in a field behind some meager houses. No one knows when it appeared or how deep it is, but the locals are afraid of it and so stay away. Except for one young girl named Shi-lee.
One day, Shi-lee approaches the hole and stands on its rim expectantly. From deep within the inky shadows a HUGE round face peers up at Shi-Lee. It is hard to make out details except crude eyes, a flat nose, scar of a mouth.
Shi-Lee stands alone at the rim of the sinkhole, the face which nearly fills the space of the hole is gigantic…its gaze penetrating: pure horrific “otherness” gazing up at her from the unknowable distance of an alien heart.
Without a word, without a sound, the face slips back down into darkness and disappears…no connection made…Loneliness incarnate."
