Chapter I is a visual narrative of my personal journey from having breast implants to the knowledge of a disease called breast implant illness. Not recognised by the medical community or my close family about this condition, I chose to have my implant devices removed as well as the adjoining tissue called “capsules” that naturally form around breast implants for proper recovery.
Using multiple visual languages, this project navigates through a forest of shadows where conscious and unconscious thought manifest themselves as a healing pulsation, focusing on an uncertain hope. Where self-representation is used as ritual and the innumerable visual information symbolises the manifestation of a body overwhelmed by layers of pain, traveling between identity and the reencounter of a recovered body.
Made on 35 mm disposable camera.
