Dr. Voss sat alone in his laboratory, his eyes fixed on the fragment of The Epoch that pulsated and radiated on the desk before him. For decades, he had been obsessed with the mysterious cube, convinced that it held the key to unlocking the secrets of the universe and granting him eternal life.
And now, at last, he had found a way to harness its power.
With trembling hands, Voss reached out and touched the fragment of The Epoch, feeling its energy coursing through his veins like fire. With his goggle covered eyes he began to chant the ancient incantations that he had found so long ago, calling upon the power of the cube to grant him his greatest desire.
For a moment, nothing happened. But then, he felt it. A surge of energy that tore through his body, making his flesh feel as though it was melting away. He screamed in agony, but he did not stop. He continued to chant, feeling the power of The Epoch coursing through him, suffusing his very being with it's unmatched energy.
And then, it was done. Voss slumped back in his chair, his eyes closed in exhaustion. And then, transcendence.
He opened his eyes, and he knew that he had succeeded. He had become one with The Epoch, and he would live forever. Or at least so it seemed...
