Igor Martins: The Shadow and the Integration of Self

The shadow is the unconscious part of the personality that contains the aspects of ourselves that we reject and don't want to recognize. This can include negative characteristics, fears, desires, and impulses that we consider unacceptable or that don't fit with our image of ourselves as "good" or "proper" people. The shadow theory was developed by psychiatrist and psychoanalytic theorist Carl Jung, who believed that recognizing and integrating the shadow was important for healthy personality development.
