Hyakki Yagyo: Reiwa Hyakki Yagyo

The theme of this artwork of art is the memory and imagination of ancient dark nights. ”Hyakki” means many monster and Yokai (supernatural and surreal creatures), Ghosts and other supernatural creatures . In an era without lights like today, the night was a treasure trove of imagination and creativity. As the conveniences of civilization brightened the night, people eventually forgot their fear of the night, and the darkness and the imagination of the night began to decline. This artwork expresses the moment when the shadows of "Hyakki (One Hundred Demons)", forgotten products of human imagination, appear in the light that makes us forget the night.
