The self can be symbolised by the sun encoiled by the serpent. There really could be no self if it weren't in relation. The self and individualism exclude each other. The self is relatedness. Only when the self mirrors itself in so many mirrors does it really exist - then it has roots. The self only exists inasmuch as you appear. Not that you are, but that you do is the self. The self appears in your deeds, and deeds always mean relationship; a deed is something you produce which is practically outside of you, between yourself and your surroundings, between subject and object - there the self is visible.
