Shot in the temporarily calm waters of the North Atlantic, where for a brief moment the setting sun appeared to melt into the horizon.
The Omega Sun is an atmospheric mirage, formed when layers of air at different temperatures bend the sun’s light as it approaches the horizon. The lower edge of the sun is mirrored and distorted beneath the true solar disc, joining it to form the unmistakable shape of the Greek letter Omega, Ω.
It is a fleeting phenomenon, dependent on a precise alignment of light, temperature and atmosphere. Out there, between weather systems, the ocean fell calm enough, for just long enough, for it to appear.
