The EDRO III is a Shipwreck that lies on the coast of Cyprus. On December 8, 2011, the freighter ran aground during a storm and has been sitting on a rock ever since. Fortunately, there were no injuries in the accident, as the crew of nine could be safely evacuated.
The 83-metre-long ship, flying the flag of Sierra Leone, was transporting cargo from Limassol to Rhodes at the time. Today, the wreck lies picturesquely near the Akamas peninsula and has become a popular tourist attraction. Despite its stranded position, the EDRO III is a fascinating sight, especially at sunset when it is bathed in a golden light.
The Cypriot authorities have decided not to salvage the wreck for environmental and safety reasons, securing it a permanent place in the coastal landscape of Cyprus. It remains a silent witness to the unpredictable forces of nature and an unusual landmark of the region.
