The third in the PLASTIC series.
Each piece seems to become darker and more visceral as I become more and more enraged by all the litter I see every day, and I become more comfortable expressing that in an image.
It's hard for me to rationalise saving all these human lives during the pandemic when I see protective masks on the ground every day, which will end up in stomach of a sea animal, or embedded into the natural ecosystem of other living organisms and destroying them. Part of me feels like we don't deserve saving. That part grows larger every day.
Humans, by the very nature of our consciousness, are not innocent. We have the ability to make decisions and understand the consequences of those actions. Yes, we are also animals and our brains act in a way that we have no control over sometimes, but we know what we're doing when we litter on the ground and when we do things that harm the planet. Humans also have a function known as 'denial' which allows us to do terrible things and keep living as if they didn't happen - seemingly there to protect us, but it's destroying us instead.
The rest of the animals and nature on this planet are INNOCENT. They act based on instinct alone. Hunters and prey all live in a symbiotic ecosystem that is balanced and just. They do not deserve what we do to them and their homes. We deserve punishment, and I believe that time will come soon.
If this image is confronting then I've done my job.
Don't litter.
