The background image for this artwork is an end-view of stacked, extruded aluminum tubes I found at a building supply shop in Bangkok. Graphic patterns in the environment always delight my psychic energy. The workers there were fascinated that I would shoot such a photo. Little did they know my final creation. I later rotated and flipped the image to orchestrate a balanced canvas upon which I added the whimsy of seven digitally applied red circles positioned with a honed eye to establish balance and hierarchy. In the final animation, I added an element of playfulness with thin horizontal lines that vibrate according to the shapes in the artwork and that fluctuate in sync with a pulsing canvas.
My kinetic animated creations explore motion, vibration, energy, gesture, and juxtaposition while incorporating geometric or architectonic background images captured during my travels to more than one hundred countries. I later add graphic design elements, typically in a modular matrix grid arrangement with occasional hand-drawn digital brush strokes to create designs based on my whim of the moment yet controlled by honed visual perspectives that integrate balance, proportion, color, shape, buoyancy, and often a bit of humor.
