I thought things would always stay the same. That big pink house - a garish blight on the top of the hill that hugged our bodies with it’s echoes and peeling wall paper. I remember my 6th birthday party there, all fairy wings and bloated tummy’s, sick from blue icing and cheap lollies. I cried in the bathroom, hot tears of anxiety because I felt like a lone candle on a cake. That was before, when the giant pink house was my only friend. I thought it would stand forever in it’s grand ageing beauty, but now it looks small. The same way Nana does. So much memory and might in a decaying frame. Whispers of laughter in the walls, my first kiss lingering behind the laundry window.
