The constant balance between heat, cold, water and wind creates a cracked, wildly colored, and always changing environment in the Alvord Desert. The darker areas are wet mud, and the white areas are deposits of boron and other hard minerals left behind when the water evaporates. The water in the area is mostly delivered from underground hot springs full of minerals. This image was made from about 20 feet in the air with the help of a Drone.
