Current Events: Spy Hop

Humpback Whales can spy hop only when they're trying to see what is above. This event that happened this morning was rare on all levels. Last time this happen was 4 years ago. Today was another encounter.

My lens was focused on a whale much further from us. I captured the patterns of this whale up close and Personal. Rare occasion even more rare to capture the patterns of this giant animal.

Humpbacks do not Spy Hop or come close unless they feel no threat. Even then it is scary because they are giant. Weighing thousands of pounds. Encounters are special but we try to keep our distance.
