Right outside of Hanoi, there's a village known for their fishing basket. When I visited in April 2023, I was able to witness the living, breathing tribute to the age-old skill of basket weaving. And let me tell you, these aren't your regular baskets; they are practical, stunning pieces of art, which this village is world famous for.

This place is the beating heart of the local fishing scene, and it's all down to these amazing fishing baskets.

By threading bamboo together, these strong baskets can withstand all sorts of conditions out there on the water. Oftentimes, fishermen attach weights and floats so that the net hangs perfectly in the water. With a little TLC, these nets can easily last for over a decade.

These baskets are so efficient they've been used in scientific research studying fish migration patterns in rivers worldwide. These studies give us crucial insights into how our actions are impacting ecosystems.
