Dalton Mannerud: The State of the World
"The State of the World" is a mesmerizing work of art that is sure to leave its viewers spellbound. Inspired by the great Giorgio de Chirico, Dalton has skillfully incorporated their unique post surrealism style to create a masterpiece that is both haunting and otherworldly.
At the center of the canvas, a giant statue of a wizard or mystical creature looms large, holding a giant snail shell that is adorned with cartoon eyes. The symbolism of this enigmatic figure is open to interpretation, but its imposing presence is undeniable.
To the left of the statue, a broken computer hints at the fragility of our digital world, while a broken television in the background speaks to the disconnection and disillusionment that pervades our society. The absence of life is palpable, and the giant arches leading to a black abyss only add to the sense of mystery and foreboding.
The sky, rendered in a dark and ominous green, is a striking contrast to the little sun/moon peeking through the clouds in the top right corner. This juxtaposition of light and dark, of hope and despair, is a recurring theme in Dalton's work.
Overall, "The State of the World" is a deeply mystical piece of art that invites contemplation and reflection. With its dreamlike imagery and potent symbolism, it is sure to captivate and inspire all those who behold it.
