Always Has Been: Chapter 1: Iceland's 1976 Women's Strike

The Icelandic Women's Strike on October 24, 1976, was a peaceful protest organized by women across Iceland to highlight gender inequality and their societal contributions. Women refrained from work, both professional and domestic, for the day, drawing national attention. The strike proved pivotal, influencing societal change and setting the stage for Vigdís Finnbogadóttir's election as Iceland's president in 1980, making her the world's first democratically elected female head of state.
