Always Has Been: Chapter 1: Ada Lovelace and the 1838 Controversy over the Analytical Engine

In 1838, Ada Lovelace, an English mathematician and writer, encountered criticism for her pioneering work on Charles Babbage's analytical engine. As she developed what is recognized as the first algorithm intended for machine processing, Lovelace's ideas were met with skepticism by contemporaries who struggled to grasp the potential of computational devices. This challenge was compounded by societal biases against women's contributions to science. Despite this, Lovelace's visionary work laid the groundwork for modern computer science.
