This is the original 1999 version of my most famous creation, my calling card as an artist.
In 1999 I had just "gone pro" as a wallpaper artist and finally had a bit of money to spend on some real 3D software. I purchased a program called "Inspire3D" (an stripped down version of Lightwave3D) and one of my exercises with it was using splines and the lathe to create a mushroom shape. I created a few different ones and used the magnet tool to give them all slightly different contours.
I hadn't figured out texturing/rendering yet in Inspire so I exported my objects to Bryce to create the final image. It was by far the most popular image I had created to date and all the new traffic prompted me to move to a dedicated web server.
A year later, in 2000, I created a new version of the mushrooms using only Lightwave[6] (I called it "Fluorescence[6]") which remains my most well-known piece to this day. I've created over 10 different version of this mushrooms over the past 20+ years but this is where it started, as a humble 3D learning exercise in the late 90s.
