Skyward (2025) is a large-scale public installation by Ezequiel Pini, created for Manar Abu Dhabi 2025 and commissioned by Public Art Abu Dhabi, Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi.
The work brings together a 10.5-ton natural gabbro stone with a monumental inclined surface of mirrored glass and digital light. Selected in Ras Al Khaimah and shaped by hand over several weeks, the stone acts as the physical anchor of the installation: a fragment of geological time confronted with an evolving choreography of light.
Across the reflective surface, points of light slowly ascend from the horizon, evoking stars, constellations and distant celestial bodies. The mirrored plane simultaneously reflects the surrounding landscape, the sky and the viewer, allowing physical and digital realities to coexist within the same field.
Skyward explores the relationship between earth and sky, matter and light, and between geological and digital notions of time. It reflects on the instinctive human gesture of looking upward and on light as a way of perceiving distance, movement and the unknown.
Originally presented on Jubail Island as part of Manar Abu Dhabi 2025, the work is part of Ezequiel Pini’s ongoing series.
This token was minted in 2026 as part of the institutional acquisition of Skyward by Public Art Abu Dhabi, Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, and is part of the artwork’s digital provenance.
