In 2024, I grew my first garden. The goal was to cultivate an understanding of best growing practices for my particular region, while also providing food for my family and neighbors. It was a successful experiment with bountiful yields of tomatoes, squash, pole beans, herbs, and of course...flowers. The pumpkins however were a bit more challenging to incorporate within the main space due to their tendency to trail and their potential size expectations, so I had to move them away from the house.
This particular summer was hot. Many of my first pumpkin starts fried out from lack of water or too much direct sunlight. As a result, only one pumpkin survived...the one featured here.
I programmed a DJI Mini 4pro to descend down and capture myself harvesting the final pumpkin of the season. The harvest was then paired with another improvised piano track that I recorded on an old piano in the kitchen with a view of the planter boxes. Just like the music, the filming was also done in one take.
