While you sleep, I wander.
Into places where the living have left,
and only the dead remain.
Waiting for the sky
to bring them back to life
I keep going back to these dead trees in the middle of nowhere. I don’t even fully know why. Maybe because they’re quiet. Maybe because they’ve been through shit.
They’ve seen fire, drought, storms and somehow they’re still here.
I think I relate to that.
Photographing them under the stars gives them something, light, context, a kind of presence again. And in doing that, it gives me something too.
I’m not just capturing a scene, I’m standing with what’s been left behind… and choosing to see it.
