Reimagining a classic game in an 11×11 grid.
HOW TO PLAY — Arrow keys or WASD on a computer. Swipe on a phone. Eat the square, don't hit the walls, don't bite yourself. Every square you eat is 10 points and makes you longer.
HIGH SCORES — When your game ends, type a name and hit SUBMIT SCORE. Your game is written to the Base blockchain and stays there permanently. Names are open — no accounts, nothing to register. A name is whatever you type, and each name gets one row on the board: its best game. If two people play under the same name, they share that row and the better game holds it. So pick a name that's unmistakably yours — the more unique it is, the more the row belongs to you. The board shows the top ten. The ‹ › arrows page deeper. Tap any row to watch that game played back, exactly as it happened. While a game plays back, press [ and ] to change the speed. [ slows it down to half speed — good for studying how a great game was played. ] speeds it up, to 2×, 4×, all the way to 8×. Every score here is proven, not claimed. The piece replays each submitted game move by move and does the math itself. Nobody can fake a number on this board.
IF SUBMIT DOESN'T WORK — Your score isn't lost. Hit REPLAY and copy the string of text — that string IS your game. Anyone can paste it into the board (PASTE A REPLAY) to verify it and see where it ranks, and it can be submitted on-chain any time through the contract: https://basescan.org/address/0x1464D2886fd42cE1AAe3d6a938c1d704Fa4b1AC6#writeContract
COLORS — Press the number keys 0–9 to change the palette. On a phone, or anywhere without a keyboard, tap the SNAKE11 title — each tap is the next palette. The palettes pay tribute to the games, movies, artists, and NFT lore that shaped this piece — each one is a thank-you note in color.
0 THE NOTHING · 1 KLIMT — accent colors from the works of Gustav Klimt, pulled with @Pixel0Symphony's Meditations in Color tool (meditationsincolor.com) · 2 ARCADE · 3 PEPE · 4 TRON — colors from the original 1982 Tron movie poster, pulled with the same tool · 5 FIDENZA — used with permission from Tyler Hobbs; these colors come from the Fidenza palette in QQL (qql.art) · 6 CRYPTO PUNKS · 7 OPEPEN — from Opepen Set 001 1/1 by Jack Butcher · 8 X — colors from Right-click and Save As guy by XCOPY · 9 GALAGA.
Press + and - to stretch or shrink the color bands. + makes each band of color run longer down the snake, - makes the stripes thinner. It goes from skinny one-square stripes all the way to one long solid snake. Find the stripe that suits you — the piece remembers it.
SHARE — After a game, SHARE makes an image of your final board and score. If it appears on screen instead of downloading, right click save it.
