THE_VOID #11 :: ETHEREAL MANIFOLD
This is a procedural, generative, interactive audiovisual web-based artwork. It invites you into a dark, mesmerizing 3D space constructed entirely of mathematical equations.
At its core is a real-time, raymarched 3D fractal that infinitely folds and unfolds, glowing with a deep cosmic palette of bioluminescent blues, purples, and ethereal whites.
When you interact with the piece—via mouse movement on desktop or device tilt on a mobile phone—you glide through the spatial geometry.
Pressing and holding the screen triggers a "Bloom" state. This interaction gently fractures and expands the fractal’s topology while pushing the camera deeper into the void.
Simultaneously, a rich, generative soundscape acts as a sonic anchor. The audio is rooted in the much-revered 432Hz tuning system. As the visual geometry blooms, the audio dynamically responds: a lowpass filter opens up to reveal higher frequencies, and spatial tape delays intensify, creating a vast, echoing chamber of sound that perfectly mirrors the unfolding visuals.
What Makes It Unique?
- Psychoacoustic Design (Delta Binaural Beats)
The audio engine is not just playing background music; it is actively engineered to alter the your state of mind using psychoacoustics. It generates a 432Hz tone in the left ear and a 436Hz tone in the right ear. This 4Hz difference creates a Binaural Beat—an auditory illusion that encourages the brain to entrain to Delta waves (1-4 Hz), which are associated with deep meditation, healing, and restorative sleep.
- Symbiotic Audiovisual "Bloom"
Most interactive art treats audio and video as separate layers, but here, they are deeply coupled through a shared variable: state.currentBloom.
When you trigger the bloom: Visually: The mathematical distance of the fractal expands, the colors shift toward vibrant pinks/purples, and the camera zooms inward.
Musically: The global audio filter frequency flares open, and the dual-channel tape delay feedback swells.
When you release touch, both the visuals and the audio slowly drift back to a subdued, coherent baseline.
- Pure Mathematical Rendering (Raymarching)
There are no 3D models, textures, or image files used in this piece. The entire visual environment is calculated per-pixel in real-time using a WebGL fragment shader via a technique called Raymarching. The infinite tunnel effect is achieved by folding space over itself iteratively (p = clamp(p, -1.0, 1.0) * 2.0 - p;), creating boundless, organic-looking structures out of pure code.
- Responsive Device Orientation
The piece relies heavily on the environment in which it is viewed. While it utilizes standard mouse tracking for desktop users, it taps into the deviceorientation (gyroscope) API for mobile users. This allows users to physically tilt their phones to look around the fractal, transforming the screen into a literal window to another dimension.
