The Aria is a powerful moment for a songstress with her heart bare. This Aria is an ode to the somber power of a woman who doesn’t know her strength, yet it radiates from her anyway. She is caught between the luster of the light she sees in the world and the dull narrative she writes about herself. The blue is that atmosphere, the red is that burnished light she can not hide. The abstractions represent the disparity between the world as it is and the world as we perceive it. Aria represents power and the ability to bend. The concave and convex curves are set against each other while the subject appears both submissive and powerful.
This piece is the first in the collection and sparked the rest of the works. It began because I wanted to prove to someone that they were beautiful and truly represent her with the same capture and stroke. It’s title became the namesake of the collection as a whole and started me on a path that diverged greatly from all my work prior.
