The last official portrait of Louis Cha Leung-yung - Jin Yong (金庸).
This portrait was published in The New Yorker in April 2018, honoring Jin Yong as the best-selling, most influential Chinese author ever; Mr. Cha passed away that October.
Jin Yong was Hong Kong's most famous writer and the godfather of the wuxia genre: swashbuckling kung-fu fantasias. Over 100 million copies of his works have been sold worldwide, translated into some dozen languages, and adapted into countless films, television series, comics, and video games.
Fans of Jin Yong's 14 canonical epics have joined the first characters of each title to form a couplet - 飛雪連天射白鹿;笑書神俠倚碧鴛 - which has become a legendary mnemonic to the literary giant, for generations to come.
